The wrap on recycling

Colleen Hartland MLC - My adjournment matter is for the attention of the Minister for Environment and Climate Change. The South West Environment Action Group, based in Warrnambool, is presenting a week of recycling action for National Recycling Week this week. Tomorrow it will be hosting a recycling day on Civic Green in Warrnambool from 11.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. South West Environment Action Group is a small, non-funded, community-based organisation with a dozen or so active members.

Government has no plan for Brimbank - Greens

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland says the government has "absolutely no plan for Brimbank" following the sacking of Brimbank Council today in Parliament.

"What came out in Parliament today was completely bizarre", said Ms Hartland

"The administrators will negotiate their salaries with the Minister, then decide what to cut from the budget to pay for it.  We could lose a park over this."

Moreland's container depost motion success

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland has congratulated Moreland Council for passing a motion in support of a drink container deposit scheme.

"You know what they say about Moreland - if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.  Immediately after Moreland Council passed their motion, I heard that New York extended its drink container scheme." *

10c Deposit public meetings

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland is taking her 10c Deposit campaign to the people by running a series of public meetings in her electorate of Western Metropolitan Region in April and May.

Greens encouraged by New York's Bottle Bill

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland has congratulated New York for extending its "Bottle Bill" container deposit system to include bottled water.

"The Bigger Better Bottle Bill sends a message to the world: If they can do it, we can", said Greens MLC Colleen Hartland.

"It's interesting to see that they recognise the tremendous economic benefit to taxpayers, as well as the obvious environmental benefit."

Strategic transport leak is messing with people's lives - Hartland

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland has called on the Government not to delay the formal announcement of their plan for a new road through the western suburbs, following the 'strategic leak' in The Age newspaper today.

"You can’t mess with people's lives like this", said Colleen Hartland.

Road tunnels: Is he with us or against us?

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland has promised to continue her campaign against new toll roads and road tunnels in the western suburbs, if they are announced by the Government next week.

"If the state government wants my open support, they can announce better public transport infrastructure.  If they announce roads that will destroy the inner suburbs, I will do all I can to campaign against them."
