Government has no plan for Brimbank - Greens

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland says the government has "absolutely no plan for Brimbank" following the sacking of Brimbank Council today in Parliament.

"What came out in Parliament today was completely bizarre", said Ms Hartland

"The administrators will negotiate their salaries with the Minister, then decide what to cut from the budget to pay for it.  We could lose a park over this."

"First the government says the administrators will be just like every other local councillor, only somehow more independent.  Then they admit the administrators will have extra clauses in their contracts to give the Minister a level of control.  You have to ask yourself, how is this better than the situation in the Ombudsman's report, in which councillors were compromised by being leaned on by members of parliament?"

"The government says they need three years for reform in Brimbank, but they were not able to come up with a single thing they were planning to do to fix the corruption during the three years.  They have no plans, other than appointing administrators."

"You can sack council as many times as you like.  Sunshine Council was sacked twice, and it did a fat lot of good."

"What I found absolutely astounding is that the Liberals let the government get away with it. They supported the ALP not having a reform process in place."

"I think the Libs enjoy Brimbank being such a nightmare, because it gives them something to beat the ALP with."

"I think the Greens ARE the opposition in this state. The Liberals and the ALP are practically a coalition."

"When the Liberals voted against my amendment, they had to snuggle up on the benches with the government, shoulder to shoulder.  I wish I'd taken a photo," said Colleen Hartland
